Road side stalls were everywhere as there were no hawker centres then.
Fishball mee pok noodles and char kway teow could cost just 20 cents.
The tailor who made my first long pants when I turned 15 was Tong Ah Tailor. I still remember his face. God bless his soul.
Who can forget the wanton mee and carrot cake at the old market?
As we got older, it was a joy to have beers at Low Teo Beer Garden at the food square before it was demolished.
Special mention to the Indian uncle with his thick white hair who ran his stall selling tidbits since I was young.
Cheers to Commonwealth Crescent!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13622912497891560987noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7879616429817825762.post-7766274320174970552020-04-14T10:34:18.238+08:002020-04-14T10:34:18.238+08:00it should be blk 114 and blk 115 commonwealth cres...it should be blk 114 and blk 115 commonwealth crescent and not commonwealth close as I used to stay there
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16205771193781573125noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7879616429817825762.post-5625732188732771922013-09-16T16:45:04.167+08:002013-09-16T16:45:04.167+08:00Yes...Kindergarten school still the same but now o...Yes...Kindergarten school still the same but now occupied by RC and had renovated years ago.Catcathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12201210678501172664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7879616429817825762.post-50202774955950353642013-09-16T16:28:40.127+08:002013-09-16T16:28:40.127+08:00I remember there was a two-Swing at the playground...I remember there was a two-Swing at the playground just next to see-saw and there was a sand-stoned pathway in between see-saw and a swing. The Swing's ground was sand-based. Your picture of it seems to show a large playground. Blk 95 was the last block I would pass coming down the hill towards the bus stop at Blk 97. I lived in Blk 82. The open lot with the stage used to be a playground and part of a hawker centre, right? The tree area between the stage and Queenstown Lutheran Church (QLC) used to be a parking lot. I understand the hawker centre and wet market are now combined. Blk 116’s kopi -tiam with prawn mee stall is my favourite too! Heh, I have already earmarked Mr Teo’s chicken rice stall for my upcoming visit, including Jian Kang Noodle, Hong Kee Congee and the Indo Pancakes. My former JC mate also mentioned the Cheng Tng stall. The Bouna Vista Commonwealth RC used to be a PAP kindergarten, which I attended. I remember the kiddy rides along the shophouses. Are they the same from 30 years ago?!? I attended QLC kindergarten too, with some fond memory of the kitchen from which snacks were provided during recess. I remained at QLC as a congregation member and cooked fried rice for our youth group potlucks in that same kitchen.VKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17940633087391969128noreply@blogger.com
