Festival of Lights

Indian Heritage Centre (IHC)
The Festival of Lights is known as Deepavali (deep - lamp, vali - array), which falls on the 24th October 2022. COVID-19 has been a dark and difficult two years. 
The festival is a time for rejoicing and renewal.
Celebrations revolve around the triumph of good over evil, purity over impurity, light over darkness, is one of the most important Hindu festivals.
The Festival of Lights takes place on the darkest night (first night of the new moon) in the month of Kartik in the Hindu calendar.
Deepavali is typically marked by a display of lights in the 'Little India' district, which is where the Indian community are mainly located.
LISHA is collaborating with LTA for Deepavali designs to line the sides and floors of public trains and buses.
The Indian Heritage Centre (IHC) will lined up to offer exciting gaming tours, where participants can explore the streets to understand the history and heritage of the precinct which will start from 30th Sept 2022 to 23rd October 2022.

A crowd-favourite, a Miniature replica of Little India street light-up arch along Campbell Lane beckons the public and visitors to join in the festivities at IHC.

The decorated arch extends from the instituation entrance to its stairwell, serving as the perfect backdrop to take Deepavali #OOTD.
IHC's programmes include cultural craft workshops, cooking demos, drop-in activities, heritage trails, performances, a bus tour and evening trishaw rides where visitors can take in the sights, sounds and festivities of Little India.

Money Packets
Date:1st Oct - 23rd Oct 2022
Take a photo at IHC, upload it onto social media with the hashtag #IHCDeepavali, and redeem limited-edition money packets featuring oil lamp and peacock designs from IHC!

Little India Trishaw Trails
Date & Time:30 Sep & 7, 14, 21 Oct |6 – 8pm (15mins per ride)
Fee: $10 per trishaw ride (2 pax per ticket)

Trishaw ride every Friday evening starting from 30th Sep while taking in the sights, sounds, and festivities of Little India as the precinct ushers in Festival of Lights!

Little India Big Bus Tour
Date & Time: 1, 8, 15, & 22 Oct |7– 8pm (30mins per tour)
Fee: $10 per pax

BIG BUS Tour

Get to see the Deepavali Street light-up and decorations up close in our brand new open-top sightseeing bus tour.

This tour provides the perfect introduction to the Little India precinct and the best photo opportunities of the iconic Little India from the top deck.

Mandala Dot Painting Workshop

Date & Time: 15 & 16 Oct |2pm - 3.30pm & 4pm – 5.30pm

Fee: $10 per pax

Deepavali Cooking Demonstration with Chef Devagi and Chef Vasunthara

Date & Time: 15 & 16 Oct |10.30am – 12pm

Fee: $10 per pax

Cultural Craft Activities

Date: 1 – 23 October 2022

Venue: IHC Lobby

The young and the young-at-heart can try their hand at various drop-in activities at the IHC lobby. This includes decorating of oil lamps and creating of Ramayana shadow puppets that narrate the story of Deepavali.

Community Lego Mural

Date: 1 – 23 October 2022

Venue: IHC Lobby

Come together and contribute to this community LEGO mural shaped as a Rangoli design. This community Lego mural is designed in collaboration with LEGO artist Jeffrey Kong.

Other Deepavali-themed programmes - Deepavali in Animal Land (22nd Oct 22, Time: 11.30am, 2pm and 3.30pm. Price: $10)
